Tip 19 – Add sharing buttons to your website

Tip 19 - sharingWe’ve talked about using social media accounts to promote your website, and to create links back to your website. It is also something you can do for your visitors. You can add facebook and twitter buttons on your website that link back to your own social media accounts so your visitors can follow you. But you can also add sharing buttons or bookmarking buttons to your website to allow your visitors to share and like your content.

addthis.com is a very popular service that provides sharing tools for websites. Their website gives you a choice of buttons, and easy-to-use interface to set it up. Then all you need to do is copy the code and paste it into your html pages. They also provide a plugin for wordpress which can be easily set up and automatically add the sharing buttons to the tops of your pages.

It is important to provide the tools for your visitors to interact with your website. You need them to help you promote it, and their recommendations will carry a lot of weight amongst their networking circles of friends, family, and colleagues. It will also promote your website in the search engine results as the more a page is shared, the higher up the results pages it will go.

So when you are thinking about adding the facebook, twitter or other social media icons to your website, remember that there are two kinds you need to add. The links to your own accounts so you can be followed and liked, and sharing buttons to enable your visitors to share your content in their social media accounts.
